In 1998, the new rules of Formula 1 were introduced, and with it the new McLaren Mercedes car. With an efficient aerodynamic design to create high downforce, improved suspension for better grip, new Bridgestone tires, a well-balanced chassis designed by Adrian Newey, and of course the powerful 3-liter Mercedes V10 engine, the two cars driven by Mika Hakkinen and David Coulthard dominated the season. After a one-two finish at the Australian Grand Prix, the team won the constructors' title and Häkkinen beat Michael Schumacher to win the 1998 Formula One Championship.
