The Ferrari F1-89 (also known as the Ferrari 640) is an Italian Formula One car that was introduced in the 1989 season and competed in Formula One races only in that season. Its designer was John Barnard. Ferrari F1-89 was equipped with one 12-cylinder Tipo035/5 engine with a working volume of 3.5 liters and a power of 660 hp. The Ferrari F1-89 was designed to replace the Ferrari F1/87 racing car. Compared to its predecessor, it differed primarily in the use of a completely different drivetrain with a significantly larger displacement, as well as the use of an avant-garde semi-automatic gearbox for the late 1980s, using metal paddles behind the steering wheel to change gears. F1-89 cars participated in 16 Grand Prix races, winning 3 of them. The most famous pilots who drove the Ferrari F1-89 were: Nigel Mansell and Gerhard Berger.
