The car was equipped with a single 6-cylinder in-line engine with a volume of 4.9 liters and a power of 280 hp. The maximum speed of the car reached 270 km/h. The T26C model was a far-reaching development of the Talbot-Lago sports cars, which had achieved numerous racing successes in France and Western Europe shortly before the outbreak of World War II. The car did not necessarily duplicate many of the design decisions of its predecessors (especially the transmission), but it received a completely new engine with significantly greater power. Finally, a successful racing car was created, which in 1949 won the Belgian and French Grands Prix, and in 1950 (in a modernized version) the famous 24-hour race of Le Mans. In 1952 and 1953, the car also triumphed at the Australian Grand Prix.
