Bergepanzer Panther or Bergepanther (Sd.Kfz 179) - German tank of technical support and evacuation of parts of the Second World War. The first samples were built in 1944, and in the same year serial production began, as a result of which about 300 machines of this type were created. The transport system is powered by a Maybach HL230 P30 engine with a power of 700 hp. The tank was armed with one 7.92 mm MG34 culvert and in some cases a 20 mm machine gun. In connection with the introduction of the Pz.Kpfw V and Pz.Kpfw VI vehicles, the Wehrmacht command faced the problem of evacuating damaged vehicles of this type from the battlefield. For a relatively long time this problem was solved by adding light technical support vehicles (for example, Sd.Kfz 7 or 9) to such vehicles, rather than 2-3 vehicles per tank. However, in 1944 a decision was made to create an evacuation vehicle based on the chassis of the Pz.Kpfw V tank in versions A and G. The reconstruction involved removing the tower and replacing it with a crane. A more powerful transmission was also installed. Some machines of this type were also equipped with a winch with a lifting capacity of up to 40 tons. For the production of Bergepanther vehicles, MAN, Henschel, Daimler-Benz and Demag factories are responsible.
