The M113 is arguably one of the most famous armored personnel carriers (APCs) in history. It was developed between the late 1950s and early 1960s with the specific purpose of transporting a fully armed and equipped infantry squad as close to the combat area as possible with good protection. In addition to tactically transporting an infantry team, the M113 could offer direct support to troops with the weapons supplied with the vehicle, which in its early versions was limited to a 12.7 mm Browning M2 machine gun. First used in Vietnam, it became one of the most widely used armored vehicles in the world, with over 80,000 units produced. Reliable and robust, with good performance on all types of terrain, it was used in various versions by numerous armed forces.
