Acrylic paint Light Slate Gray Arcus A376 Light gray slate
High-quality semi-gloss acrylic or enamel paint MAP Light Slate Gray for scale models and historical miniatures. MAP Light Slate Gray Color Guide:
MAP Light Slate Gray is a lighter shade of MAP Dark Slate Gray, designed primarily to compensate for shadows in aircraft camouflage.
Light Shale Gray has a more noticeable greenish tint compared to Dark Slate Gray and is more reminiscent of the interior color of Green Gray.
As mentioned above, Light Slate Gray was originally used for FAA and RAF Coastal Command biplanes camouflaged in the Temperate Sea scheme. Light Slate Gray along with Dark Sea Gray was used to paint the upper surfaces of the lower wings to compensate for the shadow. The upper wings of aircraft painted in this scheme were traditionally finished in dark slate gray and extra dark gray, while the undersides were painted sky grey, sky blue or white for anti-submarine aircraft.
From July 1942, light slate gray was also used for squadron codes on RAF Coastal Command anti-submarine aircraft with white bottoms.
In the 1950s and 1960s, BS 639 Light Slate Gray was used in camouflage for short-range high-altitude fighters and jet bombers under AMO Directive A.217/51. This scheme, in addition to BS 639, also called for the use of BS 637 Medium Sea Gray to camouflage the upper surfaces, while the lower surfaces were to be painted in BS 636 PRU Blue.
