During the first two weeks of fierce fighting on the border, German troops forced the main Soviet forces to retreat. Army Groups North, Center, and South were now able to advance towards their strategic objectives: Leningrad, Moscow, and Kiev. Although the Soviet troops were on the defensive, they managed to launch a series of counterattacks. These battles often escalated into fierce hand-to-hand combat, with soldiers coming close together. The set includes four figures of German infantrymen repelling an attack by Soviet troops.
