Kit 1/35 Tamiya 35164 King Tiger German Production Turret

Total length = 294 mm. The photo shows the assembled and painted set.

To counter the threat from Russian tanks in the second half of World War II, Germany began development of a new heavy tank in February 1943. Officially designated the Panzerkampfwagen VI-B Tiger II, but more commonly known as the King Tiger, it featured thick armor and a powerful main gun. Henschel and Porsche, who had previous experience in producing heavy tanks, developed competing prototypes with different turret configurations. After testing, the Henschel design was accepted into production. The King Tiger was armed with an 88 mm Type 43 L71 high-velocity gun capable of penetrating 170 mm thick armor at a distance of 1,000 meters. Auxiliary weapons consisted of two 7.92-mm machine guns installed on the frontal part of the hull and in the tower. The extremely thick armor in the front of the turret was 185 mm and 88 mm on the side panels. The power of this massive tank was provided by a Maybach HL230 P30 liquid-cooled 12-cylinder engine with a capacity of 700 horsepower. Serial production of the King Tiger at the Henschel plant began in August 1944, after the delivery of the last Tiger I tanks. Despite the fact that this tank had advanced technology and complexity, only 430 units with a Henschel turret came off the factory line, and in combat conditions were used less than 500 units.

[Appeared at the end of the Second World War, the style of the strongest tiger is also transferred] A German heavy tank that appeared in 1944, near the end of the Second World War, is the King Tiger. The Maybach H L230-P30 engine with a capacity of 700 horsepower is mounted on a car body with heavy armor of 150 mm in front and 80 mm on the sides. The first 50 turrets were designed by Porsche, but the production turret is an improved turret designed by Henschel. 88 mm main gun, the same as the Tiger I, but equipped with the even more powerful Type 43 tank gun of 71 caliber. It could penetrate 170 mm armor plate at a distance of 1000 m. The King Tiger, which by March 1945 produced 430 machines, was feared by the allied forces because of its powerful destructive and defensive power.
