Assembled model 1/350 submarine USS Gato SS-212 1941 Hobby Boss 83523 Gato is the name of a class of American diesel-electric destroyer submarines (SS) of the Second World War. The first installation of this type was launched in 1940. A total of 77 units of this type were created. The length of the ship of the "Gato" class was 95 m, the width was 8.3 m, the displacement was about 2,400 tons. Maximum underwater speed up to approx. 9 knots. Ships of this type had ten 533-mm torpedo tubes, including six bow and four aft. The ship was also armed with single guns of caliber 76, 40 and 20 mm. The Gato-class ships were designed and put into production as a far-reaching extension of the Tambor-class structure. Compared to their predecessors, they had a much longer sailing range and significantly improved combat capabilities. They also had new, highly reliable and proven diesel engines that increased the possible patrol time of a single ship. Installations of this type also offered, like submarines at that time, comfortable work for the crew. They also had the same rich radio and electronic equipment as in those days. Ships of the Gato type played a gigantic role in the Second World War, causing huge losses to the Japanese merchant fleet in 1942-1945. It is worth adding that it was a ship of this class (USS Archerfish) that was sunk by the Japanese aircraft carrier Shinano in November 1944.
