The German submarine Type VII C was, by far, the most built submarine. This option was adopted in April 1940 and became the basis of the Battle of the Atlantic. Only one boat still exists as a museum ship in Laboe, Germany. Type VII were single-hull ocean-going boats, characterized by external saddle tanks. More than 700 units have been commissioned.
