AC - 130H SPECTER
The Lockheed AC-130 Specter is a tactical version of the C-130 Hercules with tactical auxiliary weapons. The AC-130 initially replaced the AC-47 and AC-119 in the support role during the Vietnam War. The USAF used the AC-130 for direct support, area coverage and force protection. Direct support includes supporting troops on the ground, escorting convoys and operations in urban environments. Interdiction missions are conducted against planned and possible targets. Force protection missions include air defense of fixed facilities or fortified areas. The first AC-130 combat ship arrived in South Vietnam in September 1967 and began operations that same year. After the Vietnam conflict
