Harusame (DD-102) is a modern Japanese missile destroyer, the keel of which was laid in 1994, launched in October 1995 and commissioned in March 1997. The total length of the ship is 151 meters, width - 17.4 meters. Full displacement - about 6200 tons, maximum speed - about 30 knots. At the time of launching, the destroyer was armed with one 76 mm OTO Melara gun, two 20 mm Vulcan Phalanx CIWS sets, two 16-rail Mk.41 and Mk.48 launchers, and two triple torpedo tubes. A single Mitsubishi SH-60 helicopter is installed on the ship. Harusame (DD-102) is the second of nine destroyers of the Murasame type. Units of this type were designed and built primarily taking into account the activities of the ZSP (anti-surface warfare) and the fight against surface targets. The Murasame class destroyers originated as the successors of the Asagiri class. Compared to their predecessors, they have several significant improvements. First, they used some advances in stealth technology - especially when building superstructures. Murasame-class ships also have much more advanced electronic equipment (especially radars) and missile armament housed in VLS vertical launchers. It is worth adding that units of this class, including the Harusame (DD-102), were modernized in the 21st century, for example, by adding the ability to fire Evolved Sea Sparrow missiles. The home port of Harusame (DD-102) is the port of Sasebo. Currently, the installation is in active operation.
