GERMAN HEINKEL HE162 A2
DESCRIPTION
As the situation became more desperate for the German military towards the end of World War II, a new low-cost jet fighter was needed that would be simple to build and fly. In an extremely short period of time - 3 months from the drawing board to the first flight of the prototype - Heinkel made a small sports He162. The light fighter had mainly wooden construction and was equipped with a BMW003 turbojet engine, making it the fastest jet fighter of World War II with a top speed of 838 km/h. Having reached combat units at the end of March 1945, the small fighter managed to record some combat successes, despite the acute shortage of fuel and parts.
