Japanese Navy Destroyer Akatsuki 暁 Water Line Series Tamiya 31406 1: 700

Akatsuki is a Japanese destroyer, the keel of which was laid in 1930, launched in May 1932 and adopted by the Imperial Japanese Navy in November 1932 year The length of the ship at the time of launching was 118.4 m, the width was 10.4 m, and the actual full displacement was 2050 tons. The maximum speed of the Akatsuki destroyer reached 38 knots! The main armament at the time of launch was 6 127 mm guns in three twin turrets, and secondary armament - 25 mm guns, depth charges and nine 610 mm torpedo tubes with nine spare torpedoes.

"Akatsuki" - the twenty-first destroyer of the "Fubuki" class. When designing destroyers of this type, the main attention was paid to the most powerful weapons, especially torpedo, and high maximum speed at the expense of, for example, booking and, in particular, the living conditions of the crew. As a result, a series of ships was created, which caused the admiration of Western specialists and the concern of naval intelligence of the United States and Great Britain! During service, however, some design flaws were revealed: first of all, an incorrect center of gravity, which caused the destroyers to have poor stability, as well as insufficient overall structural strength. However, all ships of the "Fubuka" type were repaired and modernized in the period 1935-1938, which eliminated the above-mentioned shortcomings. Undoubtedly, these destroyers were among the best destroyers in the world at the turn of the 1930s and 1940s, maintaining their combat value throughout the Pacific War. The destroyer "Akatsuki" received its baptism of fire in the Japanese-Chinese struggle that broke out in 1937. At the beginning of the Second World War in the Pacific Ocean, he supported the Japanese landing in Malaya, and later - at the beginning of 1942 - also operations in the Philippines and Java. From May to June 1942, he served in the North Pacific, and shortly thereafter took part in operations against the Aleutian Islands. However, in August, with the beginning of the Guadalcanal campaign, he returned to the south and fought in the Guadalcanal area. He was drowned there on November 13, 1942.
