The Saab 91 Safir was a Swedish training aircraft during the Cold War. The flight of the prototype took place in November 1945, and a year later the machine went into serial production. A total of 323 copies of this aircraft were built. The length of the machine - in version 91A - was 7.8 meters with a wingspan of 10.6 meters. The drive was provided by a single de Havilland Gipsy Major engine with a maximum power of 145 hp. The maximum speed of the plane was about 265 km / h. The machine did not have permanent on-board weapons.
The Saab 91 Safir was designed by Anders Andersson, who previously worked for the German aerospace manufacturer Bücker on the Bü-181. The new car was distinguished by an all-metal construction, good aerodynamic characteristics and good characteristics for cars of this class. In the production process, only five modifications of the aircraft were created, among them: 91A (basic production version), 91B (version with the Lycoming O-435 engine) and 91B-2 (version for the Norwegian Air Force). . The main recipient of the Saab 91 Safir was the Swedish Air Force, but the machine was also exported to other countries such as Finland, Norway and Austria. It should be added that mass production was carried out not only in Sweden, but also in the Netherlands at the De Schelde factories.
