CM-11 is a hybrid MBT, which has been confirmed if the need arises to arm the forces of the Republic of China (KR) with a new MBT, remaining within the limits set by the Joint Communiqué of the US and the PRC on US arms sales to Taiwan. MBT was developed by General Dynamics and the OKR Armored Equipment Development Center. The body is the same as that of the M-60A3, and was purchased in the USA. The turret is a development of the M-48 A3 unit and was produced by the Army Center for Ammunition Maintenance and Development. The turret is equipped with a 105mm M68A1 gun with the added benefit of a ballistic calculator developed for the M1 Abrams. In combination with a laser rangefinder and night vision optics, this gives the CM-11 a high probability of a first hit in any conditions and in motion. The commander's tower with the M2 machine gun was purchased in Israel. In addition to this weapon, a 7.62-mm M240 machine gun is installed on the loading hatch. During development, it was found that the hybrid will not provide the same protection as the new tanks, and to compensate for this, Explosive Reactive Armor will be introduced. This turned out to be problematic, as the extra weight caused problems with the torsion beam suspension and the old engine. These problems were solved, and in 2011 the tanks were seen with the new ERA package installed. In the OKR, all MBT CM-11 Brave Tiger, in the USA it has the designation M-48H (H - hybrid).
