Sturmgeschütz III (StuG III; Sturmgeschütz III, Stug III) is a medium-weight German self-propelled artillery installation of the class of assault guns of the Second World War based on the PzKpfw III tank. It was serially produced in various modifications from 1940 to 1945 and became the most numerous representative of the armored vehicles of the Wehrmacht (about 9,250 self-propelled guns with 75-mm guns were produced).

Full the official name of the machine is Gepanzerte Selbstfahrlafette für Sturmgeschütz III mit 7.5 cm-Sturmkanone 37 oder 40. According to the departmental rubric of the Ministry of Arms of Nazi Germany, the self-propelled gun was designated as Sd.Kfz.142. StuG III is also designated as StuG 40, in Soviet literature this machine was called "Art-Sturm". StuG III were actively used on all fronts of the Second World War and generally received good feedback from the German command: according to the reports of the Nazis, by the beginning of 1944, StuG III had about 20,000 enemy tanks. StuG III captured by the Red Army were converted into SG-122 self-propelled guns.
