HEMTT M984 is a tow truck, 8 x 8, heavy duty tactical high mobility tow truck, heavy duty crane and winch. It provides heavy wheeled lifting and crane/towing/maintenance of 10-ton and lighter tactical wheeled vehicles. Its lifting and towing system can restore damaged cars in two to three minutes.
The M984 tow truck is the only HEMTT variant that was carried out in the A1 configuration, resulting in the replacement of the lifting crane and lifting system between the A0 and A1 configurations. The current model is the M984A4. Standard equipment includes a 27,240kg two-speed lifting winch, a 11,340kg rear-mounted vehicle lifting system and a 6,350kg 2.74m Grove lifting crane. A 9,072kg bare drum self-recovery winch is standard on the M98 4 .
