Astute is the name of a class of British nuclear-powered destroyer submarines (ANN). Blocks of this type have been built since 2001. In total, seven units of this type have been built or are planned. The Astut-class ship has a length of 97 m, a width of 11.3 m and a displacement of approximately 7,400-7,800 tons. The maximum speed under water is approx. 29-30 knots. Ships of this type are equipped with six 533 mm torpedo tubes. The Astute-class ships were designed and put into production to replace the Trafalgar-class ships in the Royal Navy. The new ships are significantly different from their predecessors. First of all, they significantly exceed them - both in length and in water tonnage. They also have a larger number of torpedo tubes and can carry a larger supply of torpedoes, missiles, or rocket-propelled torpedoes. In addition, they were more suitable for attacking land targets than ships of the "Trafalgar" type. Of course, they also received richer and more modern electronic equipment and - perhaps - they are even better soundproofed than their predecessors. According to estimates, the cost of one ship of this class at 2015 prices is more than £1.4 billion.
