Although it wasn't in the credits, the CB radio was Bandit's best friend in director Hal Needham's hit film. The thug, played by Burt Reynolds, used his CB radio and a glowing black Firebird to expertly evade Smokey, played for laughs by Jackie Gleason, during one long movie chase. One of the highest-grossing chase movies of all time, Smokey and the Bandit also brought new life to the Pontiac Firebird. Fans loved seeing the striped-and-black Firebird speeding from state to state with the sheriff in hot pursuit. This popularity has transferred to the showroom.
