The M114 howitzer is an American 155-mm towed howitzer of the post-war and modern era. The initial speed of the high-explosive projectile from this gun is up to 563 m/s, the maximum range is approximately 14,600 meters. The M114 howitzer was developed and produced at the Rock Island Arsenal plant in 1941-1953. In total, more than 10,000 copies of this weapon were created. Although initially based on the French 155 mm Schneider gun, the M114 howitzer was developed from scratch. Despite the long process of research and development, the new howitzer turned out to be a successful weapon. It had good range, good rate of fire and high overall reliability.
