The mechanized landing craft (LCM) is perhaps the most famous amphibious craft in history, its profile closely associated with Allied amphibious operations during the Second World War, from Anzio to the beaches of Normandy. Option LCM-3 is undoubtedly one of the most successful and effectively employed. The design was simple and clear, but extremely rational. A large frontal ramp made it possible to quickly land a fully armed infantry unit, as well as a 30-ton Sherman medium tank. The armor was very light, protected the diesel engine, allowing the LCM to reach a top speed of 8 knots, and the crew required for navigation and close defense consisted of four men. However, its carrying capacity and operational flexibility were significant, allowing the LCM-3 to occupy an important place in the military history of the 20th century.
