The Piper L4 (Piper Cub) is an American light transport and observation aircraft in a high-wing configuration, a mixed design with a fixed landing gear and a classic World War II tail. The L4 traces its roots to a civilian prototype, designated the E-2, which first flew in September 1930, and which went into mass production and numerous developments in the 1930s (including the J-2, J-3, and J-5). In 1941, the J-3 version was adapted to the needs of the US Air Force and received the designation O-59, and later L4. Several versions of the development were created, the first of which is the L4A, better suited for battlefield surveillance due to increased cockpit glazing. Many engines were used as a drive, including: Continental A-65-8. The machine was widely used by the American army in Europe as the main aircraft for communication and surveillance of the battlefield. It was used both in North Africa and later in Italy and Normandy. The car was nicknamed Grasshopper. Approximately 20,000 of all versions of this aircraft were produced! Technical data: length: 6.83 m, wingspan: 10.74 m, height: 2.03 m, maximum speed: 140 km/h, rate of climb: 2.3 m/s, practical ceiling: 3500 m, maximum range: 354 km.
