The Marne Taxi (1914) French car The Renault AG 1 car appeared in 1907. The main one in the AG1 series was a 10-12 hp car. with a closed "landolette" body for two passengers and a simple canopy over the driver's seat. Due to their strength and reliability, these machines became the most popular Parisian taxis in 1908-1914 (more than 2,000 units). On September 5-6, 1914, 1,300 Paris Renault AG1s were used by the French Army to transport 6,000 soldiers from Paris to the Battle of the Marne, where French forces halted the German advance. Parisian taxis "Renault" began to be called "Taxi de la Marne", and the French said: "The taxi saved Paris."
