Gulaschkanone
German mobile field kitchen 2SV LKW AHN To organize hot meals for Wehrmacht soldiers in the field, food preparation was established in company kitchens. These issues were handled by qualified cooks who also used the services of assistants. The distribution of cooked food took place either directly in soldiers' cauldrons or in special large thermoses (for delivery to units located at a certain distance from the kitchen). Field kitchens of several types were used in the Wehrmacht: large kitchens for cooking for 125 to 225 soldiers, or smaller kitchens for 60 to 125 people. They were transported either on a trailer behind cars or by a team of horses. They were also installed in the bodies of trucks, such vehicles in the numerous fleet of the Wehrmacht could also be French-made AHN trucks. Soldier humor gave field kitchens the name 'Gulaschkanone' ('Gulasch-cannon').
