Marder (German: marten) is a German miniature submarine, actually a living torpedo from the Second World War. The first machines of this type began to enter service in 1944. They had a displacement of 3.2 tons and a length of 8.3 m. The maximum speed did not exceed 4 knots, and they were armed with one 533 mm G7e torpedo. The Marder design was based on another German live torpedo called the Neger. However, compared to the original, the depth of immersion was increased to 30 meters and efforts were made to improve the controllability of the weapon. Basically, the gun consisted of two torpedoes, the upper one of which served as the control compartment, and the lower one - the "combat part". Marder torpedoes were used in battles in the Mediterranean Sea and the English Channel, but did not have much success due to the presence of technical shortcomings, poor tactics of their use and effective countermeasures used by the Allies.
