HobbyBoss 83867 1/35 tank model Leopard 2A4M CAN The Leopard 2A4M CAN is an upgraded Canadian version of the Leopard 2A4 obtained from Royal Netherlands Army surplus. The Leopard 2A4M CAN is specifically designed for the war in Afghanistan based on experience gained by Leopard 2 operators. The first 20 were delivered in October 2010 and only 5 were deployed to Afghanistan in late 2010 and operated until July 2011 when combat ceased. Although it was originally intended to retrofit the L55 for compatibility with the 2A6M CAN, the longer barreled guns proved not to be ideal for Afghanistan, so it was decided to retain the L44. Also, only small areas of lattice armor were added, unlike the fully enclosed 2A6M CAN. The protection of the Leopard 2A4M CAN has been further enhanced by the addition of armor that resembles that found on the latest Leopard 2A7+ variant, but modified to suit the 2A4 turret configuration.
