In May 1942, the German Pz.IV G entered the series. Their cannon penetrated the Shermanov even at long distances, and the frontal armored hull was invulnerable to M4 tank shells. It was decided to rearm the "Shermanov" with a more powerful weapon. Work on increasing firepower began already in the summer. It was decided to install a T23 tank tower with a 76 mm M1 gun on the car. The new version of the M4 received the index "(76) W" and was put into mass production in January 1944. In War Thunder, the M4A1 (76) W was included in the 1.45 "Steel Generals" update and placed at rank III. Mainly due to the weak supply and mediocre recoil, the tank is not suitable for aggressive play. It will be much more productive as a support machine for the allies, following them and covering them with their fire.
