The Scammell Commander was a heavy equipment transporter manufactured by Scammell for the Royal Corps of Transport. It is a tank transporter of British origin, developed in the mid-1970s to replace the Thornycroft Antar in UK military service. It entered service in 1984 and 125 were built between 1983 and 1985, with the Royal Corps of Transport being the only customer. [1] Most were used by the British Army of the Rhine 7th Tank Transport Regiment of the Royal Transport Corps in West Germany, and only a few in the United Kingdom. [2] They were widely used in the Persian Gulf War in the early 1990s. [3] All were replaced by the Oshkosh M1070 in the 2000s.
