"Markgraf"
The battleship "Markgraf" belonged to the "König" class of the Navy of Kaiser Germany during the First World War. "Markgraf" was laid down on AG "Vulcan" in Hamburg on October 3, 1911, launched on May 5, 1913 and commissioned on July 30, 1914. Battleships of the "König" class were powerful ships, perfectly adapted to the conditions of the North Sea. Four ships of the same type formed the 3rd squadron of the High Seas Navy (Hochseeflotte). The 3rd squadron of battleships participated in all naval operations on the high seas after the beginning of the First World War. One of the sorties became the cause of the Battle of Jutland on May 31 - June 1, 1916 - the largest and fiercest naval battle of the First World War. The British battleships Warspite, Valiant and Malaya were seriously damaged by the fire of the 3rd battleship squadron. After the armistice was signed, the German fleet was interned by the Allies in Scapa Flow, where almost all ships, including all 4 König ships, were sunk by their crews on 21 June 1919.
