The Mikoyan-Gurievich MiG-31 is a Soviet heavy twin-engine duralumin-titanium interceptor, known in NATO as the Foxhound. The flight of the prototype with the designation Je-155MP took place on September 16, 1975. The MIG-31 was supposed to combine the features of the MIG-25 and Tu-128 fighters, that is, high speed and an equally significant range. The main target of this aircraft will be American B-1B bombers and the cruise missiles they carry. To cope with this task, the MIG 31 was equipped with very modern, even avant-garde, avionics. First of all, it was the first in the world to receive the "Curtain" phase scanning radar, that is, the machine can detect, monitor and attack several targets at once. In the 1970s, only the Grumman F-14 had this option! The radar range (320 km) even in the 21st century is also of considerable value. It also uses satellite navigation (Tropic system). In addition, it is one of the few aircraft in production today that can maintain supersonic speed without afterburners. Two Solovyov D-30F6 engines are used as a drive. The first serial production version was the MIG-31A, which was quickly replaced by the modernized version of the MIG-31B. Both were classic interceptors. However, in the early 1990s, a multi-purpose version (MIG-31FE) was created. Currently (2013), Russian aircraft are being modernized to the MIG-31BM model. The exact number of aircraft released is unknown. Technical data: length: 22.69 m, wingspan: 13.46 m, height: 6.15 m, maximum speed: 2.83 ma, rate of climb: 208 m / s, maximum range: 3300 km, maximum ceiling 20,600 m, armament: stationary - 1 GSH-6-23 gun, caliber 23 mm, sling - various combinations of rockets and bombs. it is one of the few aircraft produced today that can maintain supersonic speed without afterburners.
