The Miles Master was a British World War II-era wooden low-flying training aircraft with sliding landing gear. Drive was usually provided by a single 870 hp Bristol Mercury engine. The flight of the prototype took place in 1937. During serial production approx. 3200 copies of this aircraft were produced. Armament was 1 Vickers K machine gun cal. 7.7 mm. The Miles Master was created in response to an order from the British Air Force, who were looking for an aircraft to improve the skills of fighter pilots, wanting to quickly replace the very unsuccessful de Havilland Don machines in flight schools. To reduce research time, the design of the Miles Master aircraft was based on the proven M.9 Kestrel. Despite the high pace of work, a very successful and modern training aircraft with excellent parameters, high maximum speed and extensive cabin equipment was produced. The machine turned out to be so successful that during the Battle of Britain (1940) it was even planned to be used as a reserve fighter! In the course of serial production, several experimental versions of this aircraft were created. Chronologically, the first was the Master Mk. And equipped with a Rolls-Royce Kestrel XXX engine. Shortly after, Miles Master Mk. II already with a Bristol Mercury engine. The final development was the Master Mk version. III with a Pratt and Whitney R-1535-SB4G engine. Due to the high quality of the design, after the Second World War, the machine was used by aviation, in particular, Belgium, France and Turkey. Polish aviators who fight in the Polish Armed Forces also trained on this type of aircraft.
