The Republic P-47 Thunderbolt is an American single-engine fighter and attack aircraft built in a low-wing configuration with a classic tail. It was considered one of the best American fighters of the Second World War. The flight of the prototype took place in 1941, and serial production continued in 1942-1945. The P-47 can be called the workhorse of the US Air Force both in Europe and in the Pacific Ocean. Although the R-2800 Double Wasp 2000HP engine, turbine and exhaust system made the aircraft very large and heavy, this did not prevent it from achieving excellent performance. The usefulness of the machine was so great that it was used both to escort bombers and to bombard with P-47 in the main role. The P-47 class is evidenced by the huge number of produced aircraft. There were 15,660 of them, and in the D specification as many as 12,602, which is an absolute record for the number of fighters produced in one version. Another common version was the P-47N with modified wings, larger fuel tanks and a more powerful engine. It was used both as a fighter and as an assault vehicle. Even after World War II, the Thunderbolt was one of the most popular American fighters until the early 1950s. Technical data (P-47D version): length: 11 m, wingspan: 12.42 m, height: 4.47 m, maximum speed: 697 km / h, rate of climb: 15.9 m / s, maximum range: 2900 km, practical ceiling: 13,100 m, armament: stationary - 8 12.7 mm M2 machine guns, suspended - up to 1100 kg of bombs or unguided missiles.
