Spitfire Mk.IXC "Beer Delivery" One of the most famous British fighters of the Second World War was the Spitfire, designed by RJ Mitchell. The first flight took place on March 5, 1936. The Spitfire IX modification with a more powerful Merlin 66 engine was produced in 1943-1945. In the summer of 1944, Spitfire IXs were the basic aircraft of British Fighter Command.
