Wingspan 207 (mm) A variant of this famous fighter aircraft that resulted from the desire to produce the Super Spitfire, the F Mk.XVIII was a further development of the Rolls Royce Griffon-powered Mk.XIV, but incorporated a number of improvements over its predecessor. In addition to several improvements to the cockpit, the F Mk.XVIII also benefited from increased fuel capacity and reinforced wings, allowing it to carry missiles or bombs in addition to cannon and machine gun armament. With a total production run of 300 aircraft, the USAF would receive two versions of this fighter: the F.Mk.XVIII with a standard E-wing and the FR.Mk.XVIII, which included a photoreconnaissance camera.
