On the eve of the Second World War, the Royal Air Force consisted organizationally of Local Commands (Nome Commands) and Overseas Commands (Overseas Commands). The Overseas Command, in turn, included Air Forces of the Middle East, Palestine, Transjordan, Iraq, Aden, the Mediterranean, India, the Far East, as well as air wings in Egypt and Sudan. Climatic zones with a hot climate required a uniform adapted to it, which had a light khaki color. Also, during the military operations in the desert, the uniforms of pilots and ground personnel met with a combination of khaki color with the traditional RAF gray and blue color. Service in a hot climate was difficult: heat, sandstorms, problems with clean water - all this greatly complicated the conditions of stay. However, even in such difficult conditions, the British pilots carried out their service selflessly. In tough fighter battles in the air and self-sacrificing torpedo attacks at sea, RAF pilots proved themselves as steadfast, disciplined and experienced fighters.
