Demand for the aircraft soon outgrew Vought's production capacity, leading to production by Goodyear: the Goodyear Corsairs built were designated FG. From the first prototype delivery to the US Navy in 1940 until the final delivery to the French in 1953, Vought produced 12,571 F4U Corsairs in 16 separate models, the longest piston fighter production run in US history.
