SS Jeremiah O'Brien is an American merchant ship of World War II. The keel for this installation was laid in May 1943 and launched in June of the same year, and in July 1943 the ship was commissioned. The total length of the vessel at the time of launching was 134.57 meters, and the width was 17 meters. The full displacement reached 14,450 tons, and the maximum speed was 11 knots. Deck armament at launch consisted of one 127mm gun, three 76mm guns and 8 20mm Oerlikon guns. The SS Jeremiah O'Brien was one of the Liberty ships. Ships of this type were massively built in the shipyards of the USA and Canada during the Second World War. Units of this type were cheap and easy to manufacture, had a very simple design, but also very capacious holds. It should be added that the first units of this type were built approx. 240-250 days, but with the improvement of production technology, this time was reduced to approx. 40 days! During the war, more than 2,700 Liberty ships were built, of which about 200 were lost in combat. SS Jeremiah O'Brien was built at the New England Shipbuilding Corporation in South Portland, Maine. Began service in the Atlantic, where he made a total of four convoy trips. It was also used as a transport ship during the invasion of Normandy on 6 June 1944. He was later sent to the South Pacific and Indian Ocean, where he served until the end of World War II. In 1946, SS member Jeremiah O'Brien was transferred to the reserve. She is currently one of two Liberty ships that function as a museum ship.
