In April 1940, he transported troops to Norway to participate in the Norwegian campaign. In March 1941, the fleet, covering the transport of army troops, arrived at Souda Bay in Crete. On the night of the 25th, it was hit by two explosive boats of the Italian Navy in Souda Bay, as a result of which it lost its combat capability. To avoid sinking, the British fleet towed it to a sand bar and ran aground. As it could not be repaired, it could only be used as an anti-aircraft fort. It was later blown up by the Luftwaffe.
