From the beginning of 1939, Do 17Z aircraft were produced with a new Waffenkopf-type nose and Bramo 323 Fafnir air-cooled engines. In 1940, 9 Do 17Z-10 Kauz 11 night fighters were produced. Spanner-Anlage infrared night vision devices were installed on these heavily armed aircraft. They served in the night fighter unit 11/NJG 1 until early 1941.
