Prefab model 1/72 aircraft Dornier Do 27 / CASA C-127 Starter kit Heller 35304 The Dornier Do 27 is a German civil multi-role high-altitude aircraft with a metal structure. Propulsion is provided by a single 274 hp Avro-Lycoming GO-480-B1A6 engine. The prototype flew in 1955, serial production began in the same year and continued in 1965, culminating in the production of more than 600 examples of this aircraft. The Dornier Do 27 was originally developed as a successor to the Do 25 for the Spanish Air Force as a new light multi-role reconnaissance aircraft. However, Dornier quickly saw an opportunity to offer the Do 27 to other military customers. This was explained by the very strong design of the machine, its good characteristics, the possibility of short take-off and landing (STOL) and low minimum speed. Finally, the Do 27 was sent to the Air Force of Spain, Germany and Portugal. The latter user in particular used it extensively during hostilities in its then colonies of Angola and Mozambique in the 1960s and 1970s. It is worth noting that the Do 27 was the first mass-produced aircraft in West Germany after 1945.
