The Petlakov Pe-2 is a Soviet two-seat light bomber designed for battlefield support, in a low-wing, twin-wing, metal-frame design. The prototype took off on December 15, 1940. During serial production, which began in 1941, almost 11,500 copies of this successful aircraft were built. Pe-2 was created on the basis of the WI-100 fighter prototype. Based on it, a PB-100 machine with a crew of three was created, which after minor modifications gave rise to the serial Pe-2. A dozen versions of this aircraft were created during the war. We can mention, for example, the Pe-2FT with better defensive weapons and more powerful engines, which entered service in 1942. Another version is the Pe-2R photo-reconnaissance vehicle or the Pe-2UT training vehicle.
