Assembled model 1/72 ship SR-N1 Hovercraft Airfix A02007V A firm favorite since its debut in 1960, the 1:72 SR-N1 Hovercraft is part of the Vintage Classic range; news that is sure to cause a wave of nostalgia among the modeling community!
The SR-N1 hovercraft hasn't been in the Airfix range for nearly 40 years, so it's about time it was revived. This classic set includes the original artwork by Roy Cross that adorns the front of the box, 46 parts and one schematic variant, Saunder-Rose SR.N1, National Research Development Corporation (NRDC), English Channel, June 1959.
The SR-N1 Hovercraft is supported by an air cushion and operates at an altitude sufficient to clear waves and surface irregularities on the ground. The hovercraft principle was discovered and developed by Mr C.S. Cockerell and in 1957 the Ministry of Supply funded an evaluation and research program by Saunders Rose Ltd.
The SR-N1 hovercraft is an experimental vehicle with space for a pilot and an observer, although it carried 20 fully equipped soldiers during the demonstration. It is powered by a 450 hp Alvis Leonides engine that provides a normal hover of 13 inches and a top speed of about 25 knots. It weighs almost 4 tons and is 30 feet long and 24 feet wide What's inside: Plastic model kit, instructions, paint layout and decals Specifications:
