FV4034 Challenger 2 ("Challenger 2"; the designation of the Ministry of Defense of Great Britain - CR2) is the main battle tank of the third generation of the British Ground Forces, which is in service with the armies of the United Kingdom, Ukraine[4] and Oman. It was designed and built by the British company Vickers Defense Systems, now known as BAE Systems Land & Armaments[5]. Vickers Defense Systems began development of the Challenger 1 successor as a private enterprise in 1986. The Ministry of Defense ordered a prototype in December 1988. In June 1991, the Ministry of Defense placed an order for 140 vehicles, and another 268 were ordered in 1994. Production began in 1993, and the first tanks were delivered in July 1994, replacing the Challenger 1. After a production delay, the tank entered service with the British Army in 1998, with the last being delivered in 2002. Challenger 2 was also exported to Oman.
