The MiG-29 (NATO: Fulcrum) is a Soviet twin-engine, fourth-generation heavy front-line fighter with trapezoidal swept-back wings. The sheer number of MiG-29s produced between 1977 and 1992—over 1,000—demonstrates the aircraft’s potential. In fact, it should be included among the top 3 or 4 most important 4th-generation fighters in the world currently in service. The MiG-29 was developed in the 1970s as a design capable of matching or even surpassing the combat capabilities of fighters from the then-hostile Western bloc. And it must be acknowledged that it is in no way inferior to, for example, the F-16, and in many respects, such as its powerful twin-engine configuration, it surpasses its American competitor. Since the MiG-29 was designed for the fastest possible maintenance, even in field conditions and by mechanics with minimal experience, any repairs can actually be carried out in a flash.
