Elco 80 (sometimes another term: Type PT-103) is the name of a type of American torpedo boats of the Second World War. The length of the units of this type was 24 m, width 6.3 meters, and the displacement did not exceed 30 tons. The crew consisted of approximately 15-17 people. The deck armament was of various configurations, but most often consisted of 4 separate torpedo tubes of 533 mm caliber, two 12.7 mm machine guns and a 20 mm cannon. Elco 80 boats were developed by the naval division of Elco for the needs of the US Navy as a modernization of the PT-20 torpedo boats, which were already produced by this company. Compared to their predecessors, the new boats were larger in size and had reinforced deck armament. To reduce production costs, their hulls were made almost entirely of wood. Units of this type were characterized by a high maximum speed, and were also very easy to repair and cheap to operate. During World War II, 326 Elco 80 boats were built. The lion's share of them were used mainly in the Pacific Ocean.
