The Schnellboot S-38 (1940 modification) was a German small naval torpedo boat of World War II, notable for its high speed of up to 39.5 knots, low silhouette for night attacks, and wooden hull with metal frames. The main upgrade of the 1940 version was the installation of two deck-mounted 533 mm torpedo tubes with closed covers (which significantly improved aerodynamics and seaworthiness compared to the previous S-26 series) and reinforced anti-aircraft armament, including 20 mm automatic guns for protection against enemy aircraft in the English Channel and North Sea waters.
