During the fighting, especially as fierce as in the Korsun-Shevchenko Cauldron, supply officers did not always manage to deliver the necessary equipment and uniforms on time. For the soldiers on both sides, this meant that basic necessities had to be obtained wherever they could. Both Soviet and German soldiers very often wore captured clothing. Soviet fighters noted the excellent camouflage provided by German camouflage jackets, while they rightly believed that their own winter equipment was much better adapted to the harsh Russian winter than the German one.
