Ki-86a/K9W1 "Cypress"
The first serial product of the Bücker Flugzeugbau GmbH company was the Bücker Bu 131 Jungmann light two-seater training aircraft. The first production version of the Bü 131A (first flight in 1934) turned out to be a very successful machine. This aircraft had excellent flight characteristics. This type of aircraft was built not only for civilian flight schools in Germany, but was also extensively used by the Luftwaffe. An improved version of the Bü 131D was standardized from 1939. The Nippon Kokusai Ki-86a Army Type 4 ("Cypress" in the Allied code system) was the Japanese production version of the German Bu 131 Primary Trainer for the Imperial Japanese Army Air Service. It was powered by a Hitachi HA-47 engine. The Kyushu K9W1 Momiji Navy Type 2 Trainer Model 11 was a version of the Bu 131 for the Imperial Japanese Navy.
