Assembly model 1:288 Space Shuttle & Boeing 747 Academy 12708

The Boeing 747 SCA (short for Shuttle Carrier Aircraft) are two specially modified Boeing 747 passenger airliners that NASA used to transport the space shuttles. NASA converted two used Boeing 747s for this role. The first (N905NA) was a 747-100, and the second (N911NA) was a 747-100SR (Short Range). The primary purpose of the SCA was to transport Space Shuttle orbiters from landing sites (such as Edwards AFB in California, if the shuttle had to land there due to weather conditions) back to Kennedy Space Center in Florida, where they were being prepared for the next flight. The shuttles could not fly independently between these sites.
